Who Has More El Clásico Wins? Barcelona and Real Madrid Are Tied
Barcelona and Real Madrid are tied at 106 wins in the usual El Clásico tally. See why La Liga, friendlies and the 1902 match change the answer.

Neither club leads the commonly quoted all-time El Clásico tally: Barcelona and Real Madrid have 106 wins each, with 52 draws across 264 matches. That is the record as of 8 October 2026, following Barcelona’s 2–0 victory on 10 May. Barcelona’s season review confirms the 106–106 tie, and ESPN records the May result.
There is an important counting wrinkle: this familiar total includes the 1902 Copa de la Coronación, which La Liga says Spain’s football federation does not recognize. Real Madrid lead in La Liga alone, and they also lead if that 1902 match is excluded.
The head-to-head record depends on which matches count
These figures cover the clubs’ men’s first teams, through their meeting on 10 May 2026. A win means winning an individual match—not winning a two-legged tie or collecting a trophy.
| Scope | Matches | Real Madrid wins | Barcelona wins | Draws |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Commonly quoted competitive tally, including the 1902 match | 264 | 106 | 106 | 52 |
| Same tally, excluding the 1902 match | 263 | 106 | 105 | 52 |
| La Liga only | 192 | 80 | 77 | 35 |
La Liga’s head-to-head statistics supply the overall and league totals and explicitly include the Coronation Cup match. The second row subtracts Barcelona’s 3–1 victory in that game.
So if the question is “Who has more La Liga Clásico wins?”, the answer is Real Madrid, by three: 80 to 77. That does not contradict the overall tie; it uses a smaller set of fixtures.
How Barcelona drew level
Before the May 2026 match, Real Madrid led the usual tally 106–105. Barcelona’s match preview stated that a victory would bring the clubs level.
Barça then won 2–0, adding one win to their column and one match to the total. Madrid’s win count stayed unchanged. That is why an older answer naming Real Madrid as the outright leader can be outdated even if it used the same counting rules.
Why some sources show Barcelona ahead
Including friendlies produces a different answer. The compiled El Clásico results table on Wikipedia, dated 10 May 2026, lists Barcelona ahead 131–112, with 64 draws across 307 matches, when exhibition games are included. That broader tally is not interchangeable with the 264-match competitive record.
The 1902 fixture creates a separate distinction. Barcelona’s official rivalry history calls the Coronation Cup unofficial, while La Liga includes it in its overall head-to-head total. For that reason, labeling 106–106 simply as “official matches” hides a meaningful exception.
The record measures accumulated results, not current team strength. In the usual tally, each club has won 106 ÷ 264 = 40.2% of all meetings; draws remain in the denominator. A narrow win and a rout each add exactly one victory. To compare today’s teams, recent matches and their performances matter more than the century-spanning total.
